Stop – Think – Then
Decide: Is It Right For Me?
The new craze of making money online these days utilizes Google Adsense ads on your web pages. Whenever someone clicks on these ads you make money.
Michael Cheney earlier this week released his new Adsense Videos with much fanfare. I swear I received about 50 emails in the last couple of weeks from about 8 -10 big name gurus trying to get me to purchase these videos. They always mention about the big price increase coming on Tuesday, so you better buy soon, today, right now!
I'm sure the videos contain excellent content – Michael Cheney knows his stuff and he is a well respected Adsense expert. But…
I need to get something off my chest, and to make a very important point:
"Don't get pressured into buying something just because everyone else is jumping on this hot new bandwagon called Google Adsense."
Can you say Herd Mentality…
You see it every 4 – 6 months. Some hot new product or service gets released, the gurus promote it like crazy to their huge email lists, tons of purchases (and testimonials) get made, and then all goes quiet 6 weeks later. What happened?
The gurus stop sending emails and laugh all the way to the bank with their fat affiliate checks, while…
…you and I try to figure out how to use the damn product or service we just bought!
Where's the fire? Where's the urgency?
Question: Do the gurus' emails lead us astray?
No, not at all.
Simply stated, as shrewd marketers they use herd mentality thinking to their advantage. They use hypnotic email or web copy to create that sense of urgency we feel deep down while reading. They know we do not want to "miss the gravy train." They know we want to feel like we belong.
In fact, their well-crafted copy gets us to buy thinking that:
- IF I do not buy right now– these videos in this case – then I WILL NOT gain enough knowledge in order to make money using Google Adsense ads;
- No other adequate resource relating to Google Adsense income exists on this planet; and,
- I must get THESE videos immediately so I can gain that valuable knowledge.
But at the end of the day, no one twisted our arm to buy the product. So…we can only blame ourselves IF we bought the videos for the reasons mentioned above. That leads me to:
Why should we buy the videos?
My advice:
Stop. Take a deep breath. Think for a minute or two.
Ask yourself these questions BEFORE buying (these videos as the example):
1) Does creating an additional income stream – using Google Adsense – make sense in the context of your present online business structure? For example, diversifying your income remains an important part of your long-term plan.
2) What other product(s) exist on the same topic?
3) Can you afford the videos? Does the cost fit within your "Education" budget?
4) Is the author credible – a well-known expert in the field or industry?
5) Does there exist any free resources you can begin with to ensure this fits into your business plan?
6) Will you just stick these ads onto your existing pages, or will you create new web sites altogether to help maximize your income? If you need to build new web sites, do you possess the resources to do it – i.e., money, time, expertise, etc.?
7) Do you know Google's "Terms of Service?" If your business doesn't fit, then no point buying the videos, right?
I'm sure you can think of other questions, but my point remains, as stated before:
Don't get sucked into buying something just because it is the "in thing" to do.
In this example, Google Adsense will not dry up overnight, and other products DO exist to teach us how to make money with these ads on our web sites.
I think making money with Google Adsense ads can represent an excellent business decision – if it fits your business framework.
In my own case, diversifying my income with Google Adsense ads makes sense; in fact, you can see some ads on this web page, and on almost every "Members Only Library" page. I made a very strategic business decision to diversify my revenues several months ago. It started with – how can I serve my subscribers and customers needs' better? So, in my case, buying Michael Cheney's videos, in the context of gaining knowledge, also makes sense.
No purchase for me – yet – but should I decide to do so, I will buy because it is the right action for me, not because so-and-so said I should.
I hope if you decide to buy the videos - or any other educational material - you do so after careful thought and analysis.
