Real World "Tools Of The Trade" To Jump-Start Your Online Business…And They Won't Cost You A Penny to Get or Use Them!

Hey, who loves getting free software, resourceful tips and sound advice you can use right away to save you time, money and hassle?  Everybody, right?

O/K, then, let's get started...

Note Tab Lite

If you write a lot of emails or articles, then you know the importance of proper formatting.  My favorite tool for quickly and easily formatting my email or article text to the proper character width and compiling text statistics is Note Tab Lite 4.95, available free at http://www.notetab.com.

After completing your email or article in your favorite word processor and checked for spelling and other grammatical errors, then you're ready for Note Tab.

First, download and install the software.   Second, to set it up to quickly and easily format your text, follow these steps:

1)  Set up Note Tab to wrap your text width to 60 characters:
  • Click "View", then "Options."
  • This brings up the "Options" screen.  Click on the "Documents" tab.
  • Check the box next to "Wrap to Column" and enter the number 60 in the box to right.
  • Click O/K.
2) Format your email or article:
  • Click on the "Blank Page" icon (the first icon) in the upper left hand corner of the screen to open a new, blank document.  Copy and paste the text of your email or article from your word processor into the Note Tab screen.
  • Select all text (Click on "Edit," then "Select All.")
  • To wrap your text at 60 characters, click "Modify," then "Lines," then "Split Lines."  This will cause the lines to wrap at the proper point. (Cool, eh?)
3)  Get statistics for your article:
  • Highlight all text (Click on "Edit," then "Select All.")
  • Click "Tools," then "Text Statistics."  A box will display telling you many words and characters make up your article.
All done!  A step-by-step guide for using one of the best free software tools available online to quickly and easily format your emails and articles.

Overture Keyword Selector Tool

By now most of us know the importance of keywords when it comes to search engine optimization.  The engines use keywords to find your web site.  One of the best free tools around is from Overture, a major pay-per-click search engine.  They developed this tool for their customers to determine which search terms to bid on.

Here's how to use this most excellent tool:
  • In the blank box, enter a keyword, and then click on the blue/white button.
  • The results show:
    1. Related searches that include you're your keyword;
    2. How many times that term was searched on in a recent month.
Wow!  Determining which keywords to use just got a little easier!

Now I know what you're thinking – these are terms searched on in Overture, what about Google and Yahoo?  Start first with Overture's free tool and get a list of possible keywords; then, do a second search in Google, Yahoo or your favorite search engine.

This tool gives you an excellent starting point to assist you in refining your keywords for your web site.

Froogle - Google's Online Store Listing

Want to get your product listed in Google?  Then use Froogle, a search engine that looks only for products for sale online. It helps buyers find a web site that sells the things they want to purchase.

It's a good idea to make sure your products get listed because the people who search through Froogle desire to buy something!

You can establish a Merchant account and then submit your site at: https://www.google.com/froogle/merchants/welcome.

You should then use Froogle's "Product Feed" to automatically update your listing every time you make a change to your site. You should submit your product's "feed" regularly so that Froogle always reflects the most current information about the products you offer for sale.

Find The Market First, Then Figure Out How to Serve It...

This last tip is courtesy of Ken McCarthy.  Ken points out Internet marketers sell one of two things online:  Information (such as an eBook) or Physical products.  So how do you find out what is hot?

1)  The downloadable eBook:

According to Ken, the "'secret' place to find where the action is when it comes to downloadable eBooks is ClickBank's web site."

ClickBank (http://www.clickbank.com) carries over 10,000 books in its catalog.  It defines its nine main categories based on what is selling – what is HOT.  Drill down from any category and look at the topics.  These topics reflect the eBooks people actually paid money for.  Drill down one more level and look at the exact titles – a list of hot selling eBooks!  The list is ranked by sales, with the #1 best seller listed first, the #2 best seller listed second, and so on.

So…how do you use this information?

Ken says…"If you have a downloadable eBook idea and you can't find anyone successfully selling something in that category on ClickBank, that's a flashing red light."

"On the other hand, a market that will support one eBook on a particular subject will support others too, especially if they are well done and approach the subject from a fresh angle."

The bottom line:  "I am not saying you should base your Internet business on selling things on ClickBank, but if you're looking for a way to 'read' the market for downloadable eBooks, ClickBank is a super place to start."

2)  Physical Products:

Here's Ken's advice:

...if you want to start getting a 'feel' for the online market in physical products right now you can do it easily just by going to Yahoo Shopping (http://www.yahoo.com, then click on "Shopping.")

Just like at ClickBank, you'll see all the products that are selling on Yahoo.

The difference is that instead of seeing what's 'hot' in downloadable information, you'll see what's 'hot' in physical products.

Again, every category on that site represents a real live marketplace of active buyers – exactly what you're looking for.

If your physical product idea 'fits' into one of these existing marketplaces, then you're in business.

If it doesn't, it's flashing red light time."

Thanks a lot, Ken!  Imagine - no more guessing!
